Tennessee Rules of Criminal Procedure, Rule 57
RULE 57. RULES OF COURT
(a) Local Rules. Rules made by trial courts for the conduct of criminal proceedings shall not be inconsistent with these rules. Copies of all rules made by trial courts shall upon their promulgation be furnished to the Administrative Director of the Courts. The clerk of each trial court shall cause such rules to be printed or otherwise reproduced for distribution to attorneys and members of the public. Clerks are authorized to make such publication out of the fees of their respective offices.
(b) Procedure Not Otherwise Specified. If no procedure is specifically prescribed by rule, trial courts may proceed in any lawful manner not inconsistent with these rules or with any applicable statute.
The Commission deems the matter of the obscurity of local rules in many courts throughout the State to be a serious problem, and by this rule means to correct it.
